John Brunt, vice president for academic administration, published “Hebrews,” part of the Crossroads series for the North American Division Secondary Curriculum.

David Bullock, professor of communications, served as assistant producer for the Adventist Radio Network (ARN) during the Toronto General Conference Session in July. He produced three daily newscasts covering the sessions, which were broadcast to 32 radio stations in North America.

Pam Cress, assistant professor of social work, received a national award from the group Influencing State Policy. She received the award for a class project requiring students to adopt a piece of legislation and follow it through the legislative process, with students sometimes acting as advocates.

Standley Gellineau, professor of social work, was the featured speaker at the Northwest Adventist African-American Local Elders Federation Retreat, held in Portland, Ore., last March. He gave six presentations over the three-day event speaking to “the African-American’s experience and challenge of service in the Northwest at the dawn of the new millennium.”

Kevin Krueger, manager of WWC’s radio station, KGTS, served as news director for the Adventist Radio Network during the Toronto General Conference Session. He generated news ideas, assigned stories to reporters, and set the direction of content and tone for the newscasts.

David Lindsey, assistant professor of biology, was awarded a two-year grant for $30,000, which will also support two summer student positions. Lindsey is researching how developing cells differentiate into multiple types of tissue and what role protein degradation may play in that process. The grant is through the Murdock College Research Program for Life Sciences offered by the Murdock Charitable Trust.

Marilynn Loveless, instructor in communications, presented the opening address at the 4th Annual Edward de Vere Studies Conference at Concordia University in Portland, Ore., in April. The stated purpose of the conference is to promote Edward de Vere as the author of Shakespeare’s work. In her presentation “Deconstructing Willy: A Matrix of Dissent,” Loveless promoted de Vere’s wife Anne Hathaway as the true author of Shakespeare’s work. She returned from the conference “safely, if not totally unscathed.”

Alex Nickolatos, senior accounting major, was elected president of the Adventist Intercollegiate Association (AIA). AIA provides training, networking, and support for student governments in Adventist colleges and universities throughout North America.

Hui En Pham, sophomore mathematics and engineering major, won the 2000 Randy Yaw Pi Contest held during Math Awareness Week in May. She recited 1011 digits correctly, breaking the old record of 1006 set by Loren Hanson in 1996.
