| Banner Year for WWC Sports Championships and academic accolades reinforced the strong standing of Walla Walla College athletics during the 1999-2000 school year. In March, the mens basketball team captured its third Pacific Northwest Christian Conference Championship (PNCC) in a row. Coached by Rodd Strobel and Marv Denney, the team cruised to a 16-7 record, the Hoop Classic Championship, and another league tourney win. The womens basketball team captured its first league championship, the league tourney, and their second Hoop Classic. Often playing out of their league, the Lady Wolves finished with a 9-9 record. Coaches were Vance Sather, Jeremy Perkins, and Kristi Sather. Jennifer Haynal, a 2000 graduate, was voted most valuable player (MVP). Womens volleyball, coached by Don and Gisell Hepker, capitalized on a 14-7 record to win the PNCC championship. During the year they also placed second in the league tourney and second in the WWC Power Volleyball Classic. Jennifer Ellis, senior mass communications major, received MVP honors from her teammates. Mens volleyball, led by MVP Isaac White, sophomore engineering major, placed second at the National Invitational Tournament in Chicago. Coaches Ted Cummings and Abner Martin also led the team to a third place finish at the WWC tourney. Athletes also did well in academics with 37 students on varsity teams earning a 3.5 GPA or higher.
