Campus Currents

gad·fly:

1. A persistent irritating critic; a nuisance.

2. One that acts as a provocative stimulus; a goad.

3. Any of various flies, especially of the family Tabanidae, that bite or annoy livestock and other animals.

You may have graduated years ago, but you can still be a nuisance on this campus. Or is it a goad? A provocative stimulus? Regardless, alumni are welcome to submit art, photography, poetry and prose for publication in the Gadfly, wwc’s annual journal of art and literature.

Send literary submissions to:
Dan Lamberton
103 SW 4th St. College Place, WA 99324
Up to five poems and 10 pages of prose or essays (fiction or nonfiction) will be accepted.

Art and photography submissions should be sent to:
Tom Emmerson
200 S. College Ave.
College Place, WA 99324
Illusion, strong composition, and unusual points of view are desirable elements in this category.

All entries are due by March 16 for the 2005 Gadfly and should include a brief bio, including when you attended or graduated from wwc. Faculty and student juries will select entries, with all final decisions made by the editor. The next Gadfly will be published in May of 2005.

This year’s alumni contributions included “Interconnected Memories,” a painting in acrylic by Steve Miller ’01; “Burying the Cat with Buddha and Solomon,” a poem by Jim Robertson ’69; “Someone’s in the Campo with Bruno,” a painting by Seth Lamberton att.; “The Beautiful, Beautiful Trees,” prose by Liz Findley ’03; “Lemon Pledge,” a poem by Rhonda Rieseberg att.; and “Names Like Dynamite,” a poem by Greg Heinzman att.

Limited copies of the 2004 Gadfly remain, but the Office of College Relations has a free copy to the first 20 people who call (509) 527-2363. W
