Changing of the Guard
John Brunt, vice president for academic administration, is acting
as chief administrative officer of Walla Walla College until a new college
president is named. W.G. Nelson stepped down from the presidency at the end
of the 2000-2001 school year.
Brunt has served as vice president for academic administration
since 1990. He first came to the School of Theology as a biblical studies
professor in 1970. He served as the Schools dean from 1983-90, when
he assumed his vice presidency.
A presidential search committee, led by Jere Patzer, chair of
the wwc Board of Trustees, was formed in January, and in April three names
were selected as candidates for the presidency.
Interviews took place in May, and after careful
consideration, the committee voted to invite Ron Carter, professor
of molecular ecology at Loma Linda University and chair of the universitys
department of natural sciences, to be the new president of WWC.
After a campus visit and much thought, Carter declined, expressing regret and citing family considerations as the reason for his decision. The 13-member presidential search committee reconvened to resume its work. W
