Kyle Craig, assistant professor of chemistry, successfully defended his dissertation, “Terpenoids from Marine and Terrestrial Sources,” at the University of British Columbia in July.

Linda Emmerson, instructor in philosophy, was awarded “Exchangite of the Year” in June by the Exchange Club of Walla Walla for her outstanding service over a period of years. The club works to improve the community and prevent child abuse.

Tom Emmerson, professor of art, recently had a sculpture commissioned by the Blue Mountain Arts Alliance Art in Public Places program. The approximately 6-foot-high sculpture, titled “Mother and Child” resides outside the Carnegie Art Center in downtown Walla Walla.

James Hannum, associate professor of communications, retired at the end of the 2002-03 school year, completing 20 years with the college.

Don Dawes, associate professor of technology, retired at the end of the 2002-03 school year after 27 years with the Technology Department. As an adjunct staff member, he will still teach welding and machining.

The National Association of Social Workers, Blue Mt. Region, honored Darold Bigger, professor of religion and social work, with the Social Work Educator of the Year award in March.

Chet Blake, professor of technology, retired at the end of the 2002-03 school year.
