College Avenue Crossings
From cap and gown to wedding gown, Janetta Quaile and Jared Meharry, both 2005 elementary education graduates, celebrate their nuptials a few short hours after receiving their diplomas.
Jared and Janetta met through her brother Nathan, att., who passed away in 2002. They got to know each other working at camps in Alaska. When it came time to ask for Janetta’s hand in marriage, Jared hatched a scheme to rival something from the movies.
Enlisting the help of his father, Jared set up Christmas lights, which read, “Will you marry me?” in the field behind Walla Walla Valley Academy. He brought Janetta to the school under the guise of looking at Christmas lights and led her to a candlelit table next to a roaring blaze in the school’s fire pit. Cued by the uncorking of a bottle of sparkling cider, Jared’s father flipped the generator switch and the illuminated proposal filled the night sky. Jared got down on one knee and the rest is history.
After a honeymoon in Sun Valley, Idaho, the couple is now teaching at Goldendale Adventist School.
