HOLDER—E. Joann att., was born Oct. 5, 1929, in Forks, Wash., and died Oct. 22, 2001, in Grants Pass, Ore. Surviving: husband James of Grants Pass; son Daniel att., of Aledo, Texas; daughter Linda of Santa Barbara, Calif.; and mother Margaret Bergman of Grants Pass.

JOHNSON—Ella Marie (Remboldt) att., was born April 29, 1911, in Bowden, N.D., and died March 7, 2002, in Walla Walla. Surviving: husband Edwin of College Place; sons Ron att., of Grand Junction, Colo., and John ’67 of Boulder City, Nev.; and daughters Joyce Drake ’69 of Troy, Idaho, and Lorraine Literal of Walla Walla.

LUND—Hazel E. (Ericson) att., was born July 17, 1919, in Rumsey, Alberta, Canada, and died March 10, 2001, in College Place. Surviving: husband Paul of Applegate, Calif.; sons Arnold and Garold L. ’71 of Battleford, Saskatchewan, Canada; daughter Deanna Arnett; and brother Arthur Ericson and sister Mavis Pryhorocki att., both of Desert Hot Springs, Calif.

NORRIS—(Ora) Grace Waters att., was born Jan. 6, 1921, in Nebraska and died July 15, 2001, in New Port Richey, Fla. Surviving: son Larry att., of Palmetto, Fla.; daughters Carol Koch of New Port Richey and Judy Carpenter of Adairsville, Ga.; brothers Ralph, Herb, George, and Dave; and sisters Ruby Sanders, Myrtle Sumerlin att., and Juanita Tupper att.

OLIN—Angelyn May (Dunlap) ’28 was born Dec. 23, 1906, in Sebastapol, Calif., and died Nov. 12, 2001, in Lewiston, Idaho. Surviving: daughters Ladaun Clark of Auburn, Calif., and Judy Grant of Champlin, Minn.; and sister Lavelle Peer of Craigmont, Idaho.

PESTER—Genevieve (Herwick) ’40 was born June 22, 1919, in Hettinger, N.D., and died Oct. 19, 2001, in West Valley, Utah. Surviving: sons Robert “Bill” of Highland, Md., and Oscar and James “Jim,” both of West Jordan, Utah; daughters Leilani Proctor of Highland, Md., Luuannu Haldin of Binnion, Utah, and Alaha Kuhr of Sandy, Utah; brother Robert of Bennion, Utah; and sister Sally Ann Newman ’38 of Ketchikan, Alaska.

PETERSON—L. Roberta (DeMerice) att., was born Oct. 31, 1921, in Clayton, Wash., and died July 24, 1998, in Portland, Ore. Surviving: husband R. H. of Portland; son David att., of Chandler, Ariz.; daughter Sharon att., of Portland; and sister Betty Pritel ’41 of Vancouver, Wash.

QUALLEY—L. J. att., was born Aug. 28, 1917, in Low Gap, Wash., and died Dec. 29, 2001, in Walla Walla. Surviving: wife Pauline of Walla Walla; son Reed ’67 of Vancouver, Wash.; daughters Carol Strandley ’65 of Lake Forest Park, Wash., and Dianne McBurnett ’72 of Hillsboro, Ore.; brothers Quentin ’52 of Milton-Freewater, Ore., and Max ’54 of Walla Walla; and sisters Lorene Libby att., of Ellensburg, Wash., and Muriel Richardson att., of Grants Pass, Ore.

SAMPLE—David Lloyd att., was born Oct. 20, 1946, in Lincoln, Neb., and died July 16, 2001, in Independence, Kan. Surviving: son Tim of Pillager, Minn.; daughter Kelsey Berent of Brainard, Minn.; father Harold and mother Nadine of Independence; and brother Delmar of Onalaska, Wash.

SNIPES—Bettyjean (Craig) ’69 was born Dec. 25, 1943, in Bakersfield, Calif., and died March 19, 2001, in Willits, Calif. Surviving: husband James att., son William, daughter Virginiajean, father William Craig, and mother Virginia Craig ’36, all of Willits; and brother William Craig II of Lincoln, Calif.

STAHLNECKER—Larry W. ’77 was born April 15, 1949, in Walla Walla and died Nov. 17, 2001, in Estacada, Ore. Surviving: wife Connie, and daughters Heather and Heidi of Portland, Ore.; father Robert ’50 and mother Ruby ’64 of Yona, Guam; brother Leslie Earl ’80 of Walla Walla; and sisters Patricia Quenga ’77 of Yona, Carol Wayner att., of Somerset, Va., and Donna.

TROSTLE—Becky Jo Ewing att., was born March 13, 1958, in Seattle, Wash., and died Dec. 13, 2001, in College Place. Surviving: son Charles and daughters Adora and Angela of Jenison, Mich.; and father William and mother Irline ’52 of College Place.

VETTER—James Charles ’41 and ’55 was born June 2, 1912, in Johnstown, Colo., and died Sept. 22, 2001, in Bismarck, N.D. Surviving: wife Hazel (Downs) ’36 of Bismarck; son James of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; and daughter Joy Thomas of Oshawa, Ontario, Canada.

WALLACE—Clarence S. ’43 was born Oct. 6, 1917, in Salina, Kan., and died Dec. 5, 2001, in Gresham, Ore. Surviving: wife Cleta of Gresham; son Clifford of Battle Ground, Wash.; daughter Vickie Murphy of Marysville, Wash.; brothers Preston att., of Poland, Maine, and Gerald of Troy, Mont.; and sisters Ruth Lodahl att., and Carol Kurtz att., of College Place.

WERNSING—Arleen Foster ’69 was born May 16, 1917, in Pilot Rock, Ore., and died Jan. 12, 2002, in Bend, Ore. Surviving: son Alan of Athena, Ore.; daughters Nancy Loveland of Bend and Gayle Wernsing of Dutch John, Utah; and sister Maria Heffernan of New Mexico.

ZIEGELE—Arthur John ’48 was born April 27, 1914, in Hazelton, N.D., and died Dec.18, 2001, in Walla Walla. Art gave 42 years of devoted service to Walla Walla College. The first four years he taught in the Industrial Arts Department, and the remainder of his service was as powerhouse engineer. Art tried to retire twice, but each time the college persuaded him not to leave. He finally succeeded in retiring in 1986 at the age of 72. Surviving: wife Ellen (Ogren) ’40 of Walla Walla; sons Calvin Roy att., and Richard “Dick” John att., of Pendleton, Ore.; daughters M. Alice Laabs ’86 of Baker City, Ore., V. Jeanne Sudduth att., of Crystal Springs, Miss., and Kathy Case of Yakima, Wash.; brother Paul of Stevensville, Mont.; and sister Alvina Hedin att., of Quincy, Calif.

CORRECTION: In the last issue of Westwind we incorrectly listed Marion Hanson as Robert Hanson’s sister from Wenatchee, Wash. Marion is Robert’s brother from Brewster, Wash.
