Adventist Health Lends Support

Seventh-day Adventist education and healthcare began with the founding of the Adventist Church. Today, these two endeavors still share common values and a mutually beneficial relationship—a connection celebrated recently, as Adventist Health announced a $100,000 gift to support Walla Walla College’s $18 million “Faith in the Vision” campaign.

Relaying his congratulations, Don Ammon, president and chief executive officer of Adventist Health and a 1964 WWC graduate, said, “As an alumnus of Walla Walla, I appreciate what the school has meant not only to me personally, but also professionally, as I consider the many fine employees and physicians throughout our health system who have attended.”

In addition to Ammon, other WWC alumni help to lead Adventist Health. Currently five alumni and two WWC board members serve on the 13-member Adventist Health board of directors.

Adventist Health operates 20 hospitals in Hawaii and the West Coast states, including Walla Walla General Hospital (WWGH) and Portland Adventist Medical Center (PAMC). At wwgh, freshman and sophomore nursing students on WWC’s main campus begin learning patient care. In Portland, Ore., WWC’s School of Nursing is located on the pamc campus.

The medical center offers upper division nursing students clinical experience at one of the city’s most comprehensive medical facilities. The school’s residence hall and education buildings, built by WWC, are maintained by the medical center.

The Adventist Health gift increased the total raised for the “Faith in the Vision” campaign to $9,594,171. The campaign will provide for a new Administration Building and renovations to other campus buildings. Improvements to the Rosario Marine Station were completed last year.
