It Will Change Your Life
by Rosa Jimenez
What should I do with my life? The title of a bestseller book asks this question. And in the book, the author profiles 56 people answering, or trying to answer, the question. The results are intriguing. In several stories, a layoff or other unexpected situation forced key decisions. In other accounts, a friend or family member influenced the journey, either for the good or bad. In almost all cases, the path meant many stops, starts, and detours.
Their experiences have been on my mind as Ive worked on the feature story for this issue of Westwind. Four alumni tell life-changing experiences of their own, and like the people trying to figure out what they should do with their lives, these alumni had their own winding path to follow. While some people have moments of epiphany, most peoples life-changing experiences take time.
Life-changing experiences also encompass an infinite range of possibilities, especially on a college campus. Spending thousands on tuition urges you to make career choices. Being around hundreds of potential spouses compels you to think about your options. Being on your own, perhaps for the first time, makes you think about spiritual and lifestyle directions.
The stakes are high. And thats why places like WWC exist: to offer a caring community to help light the way.
