Ed Ammon, director of personnel services, was elected as mayor of College Place during the 2001 election, with 70 percent of the votes. Prior to being sworn in on Dec. 10, Ammon held a position on the City Council.

Darold Bigger, professor of religion and social work, returned home from Washington D.C. after serving for three months in the Chief of Chaplains Office in the Navy Annex, following the attack on the Pentagon. He resumed teaching in January.

Anne Bullock, art instructor, recently created a tribute to the victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. About 4,000 students, colleagues, and community residents responded to her call to create small clay “pinch” pots. More than 6,000 of the clay vessels now line a pond on the Walla Walla Community College campus where Bullock also teaches art.

Amanda Dorn, sophomore speech communication major and a member of the group that recently went to New York, decided a week wasn't enough.She accepted an offer by YouthNet eXtreme to join their mission team from mid-January to May. She will participate in YouthNet eXtreme's music and drama ministry and also help coordinate other groups from around the country who arrive to participate in the mission project.

Steve Pawluk, dean of the School of Education and Psychology, was honored at the Walla Walla Valley Chamber of Commerce 2001 Annual Awards Banquet in November. The Walla Walla College Community Service Award was presented to Pawluk for his record of volunteer service. He has served on various local committees, including College Place City Council, Public Safety, and the Community Center for Youth Board. W
