New Faculty Join College Family
Six new faculty members are joining the Walla Walla College family this school year.

Carl Cosaert, assistant professor of theology, finished his doctoral studies in New Testament and early Christianity this year at the University of North Carolina. Cosaert also has a master’s degree in biblical studies, a master of divinity from Andrews University, and a theology degree from Union College. Before going back to school, he pastored in the Midwest for 10 years. Cosaert’s wife, Carol, is an elementary school teacher, and the couple has four children.
Shawn Dietrich, director of aviation
education, graduated from WWC in 2001 with degrees in business administration
and aviation technology. Most recently Dietrich worked for a ups feeder airline
as a line pilot, training captain, and check
airman in ce420s, Piper Chieftains, and be99s. However, his newest hobby is
spending time with his wife, Heather, and their 11-month-old daughter, Emma.
Elaine Hinshaw, technology instructor, brings a wealth of experience to her graphic design classes. She graduated from WWC in 1988 with a major in communications and owns a graphic design and marketing consultation company called Rendezvous Design. Hinshaw has also served as a contract teacher for WWC and as a designer for many local and national businesses. She has two children and her husband, Shane, also teaches in the Technology Department at WWC.
Qin Ma, assistant professor of engineering, has a doctorate in mechanical engineering from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pa., where he also most recently served as a postdoctoral researcher. Before that, Ma worked in Florida and the People’s Republic of China. His wife, Zheng Wu, is an accounting student at WWC and they have one son.
Mihail Motzev, associate professor of business, comes from Sofia, Bulgaria, although he was most recently dean of the school of business at Pacific Adventist University in Papua New Guinea. Motzev has completed doctorate and post doctorate studies from the University of National and World Economy in Bulgaria. He and his wife have two grown children.
Anne Szalda-Petree, associate professor of social work, teaches at the Missoula campus in Montana. Most recently, Szalda-Petree taught and did research at the University of Montana. She has a doctorate in psychology from the University of Montana and is currently earning a master’s degree in social work from WWC. When not caring for her three young children, Szalda-Petree also has a program evaluation business. W
