College Avenue Crossings

Ready for the independence of college life—almost—Leslie Scofield, freshman, gets a hand from dad Ken assembling the bed for her Conard Hall dorm room.

The Southern California native was among the 300 freshmen and transfer students who arrived on campus a week early to participate in JumpStart. During the week-long orientation program, students get the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the campus, make new friends at social activities, and earn one general elective credit by attending educational sessions. Session topics range from the practical—“Super-Size Your Study Skills”—to the amorous—“Relationships and Dating.”

Whatever the hurdle, JumpStart aims to make the transition to college smooth and successful.
