College Avenue Crossings

Hundreds of signatures penned on the walls and ceiling of the secluded attic in the Administration Building were reminders of the 111-year history of Walla Walla College. Some of the students who signed their names here attended the school when the Ad Building essentially was the college, holding dormitory rooms, classrooms and offices, a cafeteria, a gymnasium, and a chapel.

In later years visitors to the attic were also college employees charged with ringing the bell after commencement ceremonies or depositing records in an attic storage room.

Photographs and digital videotape now preserve scenes such as this one, taken shortly before the building was taken down. Soon a new Administration Building will stand in its place, better equipped to meet 21st century campus needs. The original Ad Building, the center of campus activity since 1892, will be remembered fondly by the thousands who have passed through its doors.
