The Light of Learning
by Rosa Jimenez
One of Tom Sherwoods great satisfactions in life is seeing his students grow. When I see my students develop and I know theyre going to do well, that brings me a great feeling of accomplishment, the Walla Walla College alum says.
Toms sentiment could be echoed by the ranks of hundreds of other alumni teaching in public and private schools across the country. Their successes are usually not the subject of newspaper headlines but are measured in the daily achievements of their students, or as many teachers say, in the light of understanding that shines in their students eyes.
It is always inspiring to talk with teachers who love their jobpeople like Tom Sherwood. For this issues feature story, we spent an afternoon with Tom in his 7th and 8th grade classroom at Tri-City Junior Academy, a 10-grade Seventh-day Adventist school in Pasco, Wash.
Tom is known in his school as innovative, energetic, and dedicated to his students. And after seeing him in action, its clear why. As you spend time with Tom through the pages of this story, I hope you too will think about the teachers in the field who are working with our kids and grandchildren.
With this issue, we also bring you the annual report of philanthropy. Every year we list the names of every person and organization who gives a donation to wwc. If you gave, I hope you know how much your support means to all of usstudents, faculty, and staff.
