Special People: Our Honored Faculty and Staff
For many alumni, the dedication of the faculty and staff is a Walla Walla College hallmark. For 2001-02 school year, five faculty and staff were honored as individuals who personify this dedication.
Beverly
Beem
A faculty achievement award of $1,500 for excellence in scholarship was presented
to Beverly Beem, professor of English. In addition to a full load of teaching,
Beem gives numerous seminars and presentations to churches and women's groups,
and writes articles in magazines and journals. She also served for many years
as chair of English Department. Beem began teaching at WWC in 1976.
Robert
Wood
A faculty achievement award of of $500 for excellence in advising was given
to Robert Wood, professor of engineering and dean of the School of Engineering.
While advising students, Wood serves as mentor and takes a personal interest
in each student. One student commented, "He always has time for us."
Another student said, "He is very knowledgeable and helpful." Wood
began teaching at WWC in 1976.
Lynn
Wagner
A faculty achievement award of $1,500 for excellence in teaching went to Lynne
Wagner, associate professor of nursing for the School of Nursing. Students
nominating Wagner for the award cited her excellent teaching skills, organized
lectures, and sense of humor. According to John Brunt, vice president for
academic administration, Wagner consistently receives some of the highest
student evaluations at WWC. Wagner joined WWC in 1994.
Starr
Bidwell
Starr Bidwell, an accountant in the Financial Administration, received a $500
staff recognition award. She was honored for her exceptional behind-the-scenes
work and service beyond the requirement of the job.
Jerry
Mason
A $500 staff recognition award went to Jerry Mason, director of plant services
and information services. He was honored for his excellent management of two
of the largest departments on campus.
