Sorensen to Lead College for Second Time

Clifford Sorensen, former Walla Walla College president, sits in the captain’s chair once again. Sorensen is leading WWC during the 2001-02 school year as the search continues for a new president.

“It is a pleasure working with Dr. Sorensen again,” says John Brunt, vice president for academic administration, and most recently, acting president. Brunt, in his 31st year at WWC, worked with Sorensen during their previous years at the college. “I have tremendous admiration for him,” says Brunt.

Sorensen served as president from 1976 to 1985 and as academic vice president in 1975-76. Although retired from educational administration since 1997, he serves as a board member for two Seventh-day Adventist colleges and is an education consultant for the SDA church.

Sorensen graduated from WWC in 1958 with a zoology major and in 1963 with a master’s degree in education. He holds a doctoral degree in education from the University of Southern California. Sorensen and his wife, Betty, live in Lynden, Wash.

Sorensen’s appointment follows a recommendation by the board of trustees to appoint an interim president until a long-term president is named. W
