ANDERSEN—Melvin ’53 was born Nov. 29, 1925, in Gleichen, Alberta, Canada, and died on April 5, 2001, in Loma Linda, Calif. Survivors: wife Isla of Gleichen; sons Don of Lincoln, Neb., and Kendall of Sammamish, Wash.; brother Bernard of Berrien Springs, Mich.; and sister Leona Murray ’55 of Green Valley, Ariz.

BAUMGART—Virginia Margaret att., was born Nov. 5, 1915, in Walla Walla and died Sept. 20, 2001, in Walla Walla. Surviving: sons Thomas of Walla Walla and Paul and Robert, both of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; and daughter Denise Mann of Walla Walla.

BAUMGARTNER—Paul R. ’51 was born July 9, 1922, in Singapore and died Aug. 25, 2001, in Walla Walla. Surviving: wife Irene of College Place; sons Michael att., of Molalla, Ore.; Monte att., of Warrenton, Ore.; and Edwin ’77 of Harlington, Texas.

BOWMAN—Helen (Parsons) ’42 was born March 16, 1920, in Portland, Ore., and died June 3, 2001, in Walla Walla. Surviving: daughters Sharon Fellows att., of Spokane, Wash., and Rita Wohlers att., of Collegedale, Tenn.

BREWER—Olga (Neufeld) ’41 was born Feb. 26, 1916, in Waldheim, Saskatchewan, Canada, and died April 20, 2001, in Glendale, Calif. Surviving: husband Edgar of Glendale; son John of Glendale; daughter Arlene ’78 of Glendale; and brother John ’42 of Selah, Wash.

FICKESS—Frances was born Aug. 31, 1928, in Oklahoma City, Okla., and died Sept. 19, 2001, in Gresham, Ore. Frances served as dean of the School of Nursing from 1985 to 1993. Surviving: brother Don of New York.

FRESK—Ernest Gustav was born March 19, 1915, in Long Beach, Calif., and died Feb. 28, 2001, in Portland, Ore. Surviving: wife Sophie att., of Gresham, Ore., and son Gary ’67 of Kirkland, Wash.

GREEN—Albert William Sr. ’51 was born Nov. 11, 1926, and died July 14, 2001, in Seattle, Wash. Surviving: wife Peggy (Vello) att., of Mt. Vernon, Wash.; sons Albert “Bill” William Jr. att., and Stanley ’76 of College Place; and daughter Sylvia Matterand ’79 of Clear Lake, Wash.

GUTIERREZ—Matteo att., was born Feb. 22, 1980, in California and died March 1, 2001, in Holbrook, Ariz. Surviving: father Michael; mother Gherie; and sister Emilia, all of Fresno, Calif.

Hacker—Frances Mae (Fowler) att., was born July 23, 1915, in Stanley, N.D., and died Aug. 21, 2001, in Auburn, Calif. Surviving: husband Oliver of Auburn; sons Wendell ’73 of Auburn, Mervin of Seattle, and Warren ’65 of Loma Linda, Calif.; and brother Ray of College Place.

JOHNSON—Pauline (Remboldt) ’31 was born Aug.12, 1906, in Bowden, N.D., and died June 11, 2001, in Elk, Wash. Surviving: sons Don of Spokane, Wash., Harold of Vancouver, Wash., and Arthur, Lewis, and Dallas of Elk; daughter Darlene Moore of Monroe, Mich.; and sister Ella Johnson ’37 of College Place.

KINNEY—Lorrin att., was born Aug. 7, 1928, in Seattle, Wash., and died Sept. 18, 2000, in Walla Walla. Surviving: sons Eric and Terry of Vancouver, Wash., Dan att. of Spokane, Wash., and Joseph of Washougal, Wash.; daughters Heidi Pierson of Walla Walla, Thyra Hinshaw ’92 of College Place, and Amanda of Washougal; and stepdaughters Joan and Katrina.

PATTERSON—Claris (Baker) ’34 was born Jan. 10, 1909, in Cottage Grove, Ore., and died Aug. 11, 2001. Surviving: husband Glenn of Port Charlotte; daughter Jean Robertson att., of Rotanda West, Fla.; and son Gary ’59 of Luray, Va.

PATZER—Pearl (Tetz) att., was born April 15, 1919, in Beisecker, Alberta, Canada, and died July 26, 2001, in College Place. Surviving: husband Arthur ’43 of College Place and son Jere of Portland, Ore.

PAYNE—Leonard L. ’48 was born April 21, 1929, and died Jan. 1, 2001, in Mesa, Az. Surviving: wife Lorraine of Mesa; son David of Mesa; daughters Diane Harper of Denver, Colo., Debra Calvert of Englewood, Colo., Joan Christensen of Rowlett, Tex., Danita Iverson of Mesa, Wendy Levardi of Beaverton, Ore., and Merci Hernandez of Mesa; sisters Roberta Crady of Turlock, Calif., and Ruth Shoepe of Beaverton; and brother M. Kenneth of Monroe, Wash.

Perry—Hazel M. (Waters) att., was born May 16, 1922, in Lincoln, Neb., and died July 29, 2001, in Frederick, Md. Surviving: sons Bill of San Jose, Calif., and Richard of Indianapolis, Ind.; daughters Ruth Zerne of Tunnel Hill, Ga., and Marilyn Freeland of State College, Pa.; sisters Juanita Tupper att., of Auburn, Wash., Ruby Sanders of Rice, Wash., and Myrtle Sumerlin att., from Canyonville, Ore.; brothers Herbert of Battleground, Wash., Ralph of San Fransisco, Calif., and George and David, both of Redmond, Ore.

Scriven—Bertha Ellen (Elliott) att., was born Sept. 2, 1916, in Bethel, Wis., and died Dec. 24, 2000, in Littleton, Colo. Surviving: sons Jim of Engelwood, Colo., and Tom of Lakewood, Colo.; daughters Jean of Lakewood, and Cheri Scott att., of Grand Junction, Colo.; and sisters Florence Pester ’38 of Kennewick, Wash., and Grace Howard of Lincoln, Neb.

Stentzel—Janine (Wysong) ’78 was born July 13, 1955, in Brewster, Wash., and died Aug. 7, 2001, in Moses Lake, Wash. Surviving: husband Keith att., of Moses Lake, daughter Alicia curr. att.; son Eric, and brother Dennis ’72.

ZACHRISON—Esther (Stratton) ’34 was born Jan. 5, 1912, in Portland, Ore., and died Dec. 29, 2000, in Portland. Surviving: son Albert Foster of Portland; daughters Loel Steagall of Portland and Linda Fowler of Vancouver, Wash.

CORRECTION: In the last issue of Westwind we incorrectly listed the year of Clarence “Spizz” Lindgren’s death as 2000. The correct year is 2001.
